The main things you will want to know before you get to the wedding day. In this blog we will be talking about important day-of inquiries that should be on your list.

1. Will you create a timeline that tells everyone involved what and when to be doing everything?

If you’re thinking about hiring a wedding planner/coordinator, you have certain a certain idea of planning or vendor wrangling you want off your list. However, the wonderful thing about a planner (among all of the other wonderful things) is that they will keep vendors, wedding party, and family in line. A timeline that is created by a wedding planner may also give extra incentive to those…erm…stubborn family members to be on time to family picture time.

2. How many staff, including you, will you have at the wedding?

A planner is often not a solo act and as a team, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will all be there on the wedding day. You may see one of the team members more than anyone else on the day of while your planner is off vendor wrangling (which is a very fun word to say). Or you may have your planner attached to your hip while her staff are dispersed at her command. Either way, it’s another part of your day that you will want to be informed on. You can’t be too prepared.

3. What’s your back-up plan?

Outdoor weddings need back-up plans for obvious reasons, but what if the planner gets ill? What if the officiant gets delayed?

Whatever the most important moments of that day will be to you and your future spouse should have a back-up plan that you and the planner are comfortable with.

This question should include day-of disasters like a dress stain, hungover groomsman, and all the unexpected but possible situations could arise. These questions will weed out the unprepared from the cool-as-a-cucumber planners.

4. Do you handle clean up and send off?

You definitely want to know if you have a ‘leave after the first two dances’ planner or a planner who stays behind until everyone else has left to ensure everything gets back where it needs to go. Who is going to put Aunt Fallon into the right Uber vehicle after 8:30PM???

In all seriousness, rental late fees are no fun, so let’s make sure all of our affairs are in order, shall we?

5. Are you prepared to support us?

This is not in basic questions, because it can be so complicated. Things can go wrong, flower girls get scared, you may need a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with you, some comic relief, or a myriad of other things from a planner. You don’t want someone with a cold shoulder to be there on your wedding day when you need an empathetic ear. Support is offered uniquely, just as every couple is unique in their wedding dreams.

A wedding planner needs to respect that.
