Happy planning!
Love is in the air and we are here for it !
February has very little to celebrate in our great frigid state of Michigan, but love is always worth celebrating and acknowledging- especially on Valentine’s Day. We often see the biggest grandest expectations from couples for Valentine’s, but we’ve asked those same couples what their plans were for the big day and frequently get answers like, ‘we usually just go out to eat somewhere.’ We get it, the typical expectation is to dress up, go out, and wait in two hours lines just to get a meal you’re going to order-in again in a couple weeks, but what if we could do something that was enjoyed and remembered. What if your Valentine’s Day stories were the ones that made your grown children cry someday. We have a few fun ideas for you and your love to get out of your comfort zone and have a blast at the same time!
1. The Adult Blanket Fort Valentine
It doesn’t have to be a blanket fort, but don’t underestimate the experience of a large blanket fort, some twinkle lights, a favorite TV show (because laughter is a great memory maker), and some snacks. We’ve never heard a girl (or a guy for that matter) complain about some cuddles with their favorite person in a ton of blankets. It’s pretty much the best. It’s low pressure, and memorable. For some added fun grab a list of some couples questions from goofy to spicy and find out just how much you still have to learn about McDreamy
2. Get Creative Valentine
We had to reign in the ideas here because creativity knows no bounds in the romance business. But one of our favorites involved body paint! You can take turns painting “tattoos” on each other. Try picking tattoo ideas out of a hat or playing rock, paper, scissors and whoever loses gets another tattoo. You can opt to wear white t-shirts and paint on those instead if you’re not a fan of the messy games.
If you want to get extra creative you can limit the body “paint” to things found only in the kitchen such as peanut butter, melted chocolate, caramel sauce, jam, mayonnaise, mustard, hummus, etc. Again, there are no rules when it’s all about the creativity! (Unless you guys are into rules and then more power to you)
3. The Kitchen Couple Valentine
Food is truly talented when it comes to bringing people together. If you’re feeling fancy- create a menu together, dress up a little, and cook dinner at home together. This is a totally cute option and is made that much better if you have a smooth playlist to dance to in between oven timers and sauce stirring.
If you’re not much for chefs, you can challenge each other to a charcuterie board challenge. Both of you must create a unique charcuterie board with at least 10 different foods and at least a few sweet, several savory, and 1 spicy- or something like that. They can be themed charcuterie boards too (dessert boards, finger sandwich boards, world foods boards, etc). The kitchen is it’s own art studio so don’t limit yourself. Try making something new together, it doesn’t have to be fancy. The goal is quality time for you as a couple.
4. The Team Work Valentine
One person picks the restaurant, the other the appetizer
OR
One person picks the movie, the other chooses the snack
OR
One person chooses the food, the other picks the activity
OR
One person picks whether you stay in or go out, the other picks the agenda.
Make sense? Too often the responsibility of planning the entire night/day is put on one person. This can be exhausting and take the joy out the Valentine’s Day for the planner. Let’s share the mental load and make the night unique by both taking part in planning and enjoy just spending time with one another!
Hopefully this gave you some fun ideas or even inspired you in your own way to make Valentine’s Day more than just an obligation holiday. Let us know how you make Valentine’s special as a couple!
